Anybody who doubts the abundance and diversity of Indiana’s natural beauty has only to leaf through this lush portfolio of 240 full-color photographs by master photographer Rich Clark to be convinced of the open hand with which nature has endowed Wild & Scenic Indiana. Clark spent seventeen years seeking out just the right places and subjects to compose his panoramic portrait of natural Indiana. In this book, Clark’s photographs are systematically grouped into sections corresponding to every one of the state’s 26 landscape units, as mapped and described in the latest report of the Indiana Geological Survey. Each section of the book is supplied with its own map and descriptive text by Scott Russell Sanders. Indiana's most heralded environmental essayist and novelist, Dr. Sanders opens the book with an elegant yet passionate essay on the evolving interaction between Indiana’s natural and human histories. In his photographer’s preface, Clark describes the technical methods and aesthetic motives of his quest to capture Indiana’s beauty.
RICH CLARK is a wildlife, landscape, and architectural photographer. His work has been published in many books and magazines, including Audubon, Natural History, Time, and Newsweek. A winner of the International Nikon Photo Contest, Clark has long been sole photographer of BrownTrout's Wild & Scenic Indiana calendar.
SCOTT RUSSELL SANDERS is Distinguished Professor of English at Indiana University. Author of twenty books, he has received the Lannan Literary Award for nonfiction; the PEN Award and Kenyon Review Award for fiction; the Great Lakes Book Award; the Ohioana Book Award; and the Associated Writing Programs Award. His work has appeared in two hundred anthologies, fifty magazines, and in his column in the Chicago Sun-Times. He sits on the national boards of the Orion Society and Trust for Public Land and on the board of south-central Indiana's Sycamore Land Trust. His previous photographic books on Indiana include In Limestone Country and Bloomington Past and Present.

October/November, 2005: Indiana Business: review of Wild & Scenic Indiana by Steve Kaelble:
"Wild & Scenic Indiana is divided into 26 sections that correspond with the state's different landscape types ...each distinguished by its own mix of topography, soil types, and vegetation. ... Many people in and outside of Indiana don't realize how diverse the Indiana landscape really is ... dunes ... shelf ice ... tamarack forest ... canyons ... waterfalls ... bald cypress swamps ... 'There's a brain drain in this state, and if people knew there are such a lot of natural scenic areas in Indiana it might help employees be more excited about moving here,' said Clark."
